F1 Timing FAQ
Supported Devices
Apple Devices
The F1 Timing App has been tested and certified using OS3+ on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices.
Android Devices
The F1 Timing App has been tested and certified using OS 1.6+ on the following devices:
1) HTC Desire
2) Milestone
3) Nexus One
4) HTC Magic
Devices with known issues:
1) Sony Ericsson X10 mini (original without keyboard) - phone does not support landscape operation (possibly due to size).
2) HTC Wildfire - drivers positions not display at present.
Users have reported success on the following untested devices:
1) Motorola Droid
2) Samsung Galaxy light
3) Motorola Droid X
4) Sony Ericsson X10
For optimal operation we require hardware assisted OpenGL V1.1. The app will run on devices without compliant hardware such as the HTC Desire and Legend, however we have a number of known issues on these devices:
* Map does not render correctly - drivers positions not display
* Slow performance
The timing screens, infobase commentary etc should all still be available.
Using Android devices, how do you exit the application?
The app exits on "Home". We found our screen design on the Milestone made it too easy to quit accidentally using back. We don't use the Android buttons except back in the infobase and the Home button to quit.
What do the colours on the Timing screen mean?
Yellow - This is the standard display colour.
Red - This is used in conjunction with cars exciting and entering the pits.
White - This indicates the most recent information available for that driver (e.g. a white sector time is the information for the sector just completed).
Green - This indicates a personal best for the driver and may relate to individual sector times and speeds as well as a lap time.
Magenta - This indicates the overall best in that session and may relate to individual sector times and speeds as well as a lap time.

How accurate are the car positions?
They are accurate to about 200 yards (this varies from track to track). We are working hard to improve this.
Why do the car movements not always appear smooth?
The car positions are provided from fixed positions on the circuit. In between those positions we predict where the cars will be which results in changes of speed. The first two laps are hardest to predict. Large changes in average speed e.g safety car or cars pitting will create a similar effect.
Why do the race positions sometimes not reflect the positions of the cars?
The race positions are updated intermittently, where as the car positions are more accurate.
Why has the Race screen changed to another Circuit?
24 hours before the first practice of the next race weekend the race page will automatically change to the new circuit. If you don't want to watch the race just go to the setup page and choose a historical race.
